18yr Old English Guy Arrested After Threatening To Shoot Up His School In An Online Game
Many consider the freedom of speech offered in the online world one of its best assets but events that unfolded earlier today have proven it’s not as free as many think. Thomas Frongillo of Oxford England was arrested and charged with “threatening to commit a crime and threatening a bombing or hijacking” after MMO developers Jagex reported messages to the local police. The publishers of Runescape didn’t disclose which game the incident took place in but it’s probably a safe bet to back their flagship MMO.
The Worcester Telegram and Gazette published the report on Frongillo, who was actually training to become a police officer at a local academy, quoted the individual as saying ““I’m shooting up my school tomorrow”. Jagex discovered the comments last week and it took less than 7 days for the authorities to act. Slightly worrying when you consider the threat was based in a 24 hour time period.
