Atlantica Online
Good: Returning to the roots of the RPG genre, Atlantica Online provides players with one of the most exciting turn-based combat systems available in an online title. Combine the high-quality combat with an intricate political system, a huge variety of mercenaries and regular PvP events and duels, and you have one of the best online experiences available on your PC.
Bad: By far the weakest element to Atlantica Online are the graphics, although the game was originally launched in 2005, so compared to games released seven years later, the graphics won't seem to compete.
The once proud race of Atlantians have vanished without a trace, thanks to the powerful substance Oriharukon, responsible for the greed that led to the Atlantians going to war against the four great civilizations. The Yellow River, The Indus Valley, Mesopotamia and Egypt, all fell to the unquenchable greed of the Atlantians as they purged the world in search of the four crystals that produced the powerful element Oriharukon. Now nothing but a myth filling books on shelves around the world, the legacy of the Atlantians remains untouched, waiting for a daring hero to explore the depths of Atlantis and uncover the dark secrets that remain. Atlantica Online is a free to play MMO title that combines mechanics from both the MMORTS and MMORPG genres, creating a unique experience that appeals to both PvE and PvP fans alike.

The most appealing aspect to Atlantica Online is the turn-based battle system. The unique battle system provides players with tactical and strategical challenges that they won’t find in regular real-time combat MMO games. Players have a main character but they can also hire various mercenaries to fight alongside them. You can hire a total of 18 different mercenaries and up to 8 can battle with you at any one time. Each mercenary has a different archetype, such as range, melee or healer, and all of them progress individually, adding many distinct aspects to the character progression system within Atlantica Online. The focal point of the strategy involved in the turn-based combat is the formation you choose. There’s a large variety of formations available as players can switch their mercenaries between positions whenever they please. Some choose to have a strong back line of mages protected by high health front line mercenaries, while others focus on causing extreme melee damage with a squad made up of melee units. There’s no right or wrong way to use your mercenaries, which creates for highly diverse PvP battles.
Another great aspect to Atlantica Online is the player political system. Guilds are able to battle for control of various towns across the game world, competing against other guilds for the rights to govern a town. A guild that owns a town is able to change laws within the town, take charge of construction and expansion, and even progress into a nation. A nation is able to select a king and then either attempt to ally with other nations or declare war. This creates a highly intense player-driver political system unlike anything you’ve seen in a MMORPG title.
Atlantica Online provides players with intense PvP, a highly innovative political system, hugely customizable combat and a vast area of other MMO features such as an extensive crafting system and hundreds of quests.
