Desert Operations Review
As you would expect from a modern day MMORTS game, Desert Operations has a heavy focus on gathering and managing resources. There are 4 main resources to collect, Money, Ammunition, Oil and Gold. Money is the most vital resource as it’s used in practically every aspect of your base, however it’s also one of the easiest resources to obtain. Before you set out for global domination you’ll need to construct a large number of residential buildings and skyscrapers, these are the buildings that allow you to gather large amounts of money from taxing your residents. The other resources are used in different areas of construction and unit training, such as ammunition being needed to launch infantry attacks on other players, while oil can be refined into Kerosene and Diesel, which are used to power your tanks and aircraft into battle.
You can train your vast army from a large variety of units such as several different types of infantry, vehicle and aircraft. Each unit has specific strengths and weaknesses and is designed to counter certain enemy units, players will need to craft their army based on their opponents weak points if they want to be successful. A unique aspect to the combat in Desert Operations is the highly in-depth formation system, a unique feature that allows players to reshape their forces before battle to better counter the enemies specific units and strengths.
Desert Operations doesn’t rewrite the MMORTS genre but it has plenty of features and mechanics that set it apart from competitors. The unique approach to formation based combat, combined with the high quality 3D graphics makes Desert Operations one of the most exciting strategy games on the internet.
