Dream World takes place in the fictional village of Lake View. Players that wish to explore the village and surrounding areas can do so by interacting with various signposts throughout the village, offering players directions to their desired location. One of the most exciting places to explore is the Marshlands. The Marshes are where the majority of combat and dangerous exploration takes place. There are several levels of difficulty available in the marshes, and players can unlock the higher difficulties by completing the easier ones. Every level of the marsh boasts a large selection of unique events, the majority of which require the player to make a choice. Some events ask players whether they wish to attack a certain monster or attempt to communicate, while other events offer intricate puzzles that offer vast rewards. The outcome of these quests vary, giving players a unique and engaging journey each time they play the game.

There are various other activities available in the village, such as speaking with the mayor, visiting the store or training your character. Players will want to visit the chief ona regular basis as she provides some difficult quests, some of which offering rare items and weapons as rewards. Training your character allows you to upgrade certain abilities and unlock new ones, increasing your power and available skills in battle.
