Guild Wars 2 Off To A Rocky Start
Any MMORPG gamer that’s been playing for more than a few months will be aware of the huge amount of hiccups a beta can go through, and today has shown that even the top dogs aren’t immune to the beta curse. ArenaNet’s highly anticipated Guild Wars 2 MMORPG is the latest title to succumb to pre-release woes with a number of technical and sales glitches.
As you may have read in a news post we released earlier in the week, this weekend marked the last beta event for Guild Wars 2 and with a little under 12 hours remaining, there are still players that have yet to enjoy the game. Originally all appeared to be going well as ArenaNet announced on their Facebook page that the digital version for North America had sold out, two words that every developer longs to hear. However, shortly after, it became far more public that a large amount of players were having serious issues connecting to the game. There had been a few posts here and there on the forums but after the digital announcement, even Facebook erupted with disgruntled customers leaving their less than polite opinions.
It appears the majority of the problems fall down to one issue, accounts that had pre-purchased the game were not given the correct authority and therefore, couldn’t log into the game. I don’t know about you, but if I pay $60 for a new game and get promised a beta event, I’d be pretty peeved too. Luckily for me, I wasn’t one of those that suffered from the issue, I bought the game, downloaded, and got in fine.
Guild Wars 2 has had a massive following since the original announcement regarding development, but with other huge MMORPG Games such as TERA Online and The Secret World on the horizon, ArenaNet can’t really afford any more hiccups if they hope to keep players around after launch.
