Jayce, The Defender of Tomorrow Abilites Revealed
Riot finally revealed the abilities of the newest champ to be released, and we can all collectively turn a blind eye to what they have decided to name him. Jayce, The Defender of Tomorrow is the newest one, and the lore reads him as someone who developed his own weapons for the purposes of revene (Riot is really stressing a batman like theme this week…) and it is this weapon that defines the character.
Much like our favorite kitty-kat champion, Nidalee, Jayce is a champion who has a role change every time he toggles his ult. He wields a weapon by the name of The Mercury Hammer, which changes from the namesake hammer to the Mercury Cannon. Guess what, it’s a cannon.
Instead of changing from a human figure to an animal as Nidalee does, Jayce changes from a melee bruiser to a ranged support. As they do with every champ, Riot posted a list of his abilities and just browsing through them one can figure out the likely style Jayce needs to be played in. Something new Riot is doing with Jayce is to give players a free skill point to put into the champions ult at level 1, allowing players to swap between ranged and melee from the start of the game.
As can be read from the list though, the transformation eats up his entire ult but offers a somewhat of a boost whenever he changes. Switching to cannon makes ranged attacks shred armor and magic resist, meaning that if you couldn’t get it done as melee and swapped to range, not only can you run right through the rest of the combatants to escape (his passive), you will be doing more damage to the champion you are trying to finish off with this boost.
The melee side of this champion seems like a pretty solid melee carry, featuring the standard gap closer (To the Skies!) and soft cc (Thundering Blow as a knockback) plus a splash of aoe damage in his Lightning Field (active mode) seems like a solid bruiser to wallop around the lane with.
The combination between his abilities in Cannon Mode (the shock blast through the acceleration gate) seems as if he will be good at harassing people in bot lane as an ad carry matched with a support, and hopefully will play out similar to how Xerath plays out with his range extension + spells.
