Need for Speed Movie in 2014
In a recent announcement the two Juggernauts of their genres, DreamWorks and Electronic Arts have announced plans to come out with a movie based on their popular Need for Speed games sometime in 2014. According to these two, the movie will be a movie that is fast paced and closer to the ‘great car culture films of the 70s’ while remaining true to the spirit of the gaming franchise. A movie about cars is going to stay true to the franchise about cars.
The two publishers also quipped that the cars of Need for Speed are, the racing is intense, and the storyline of the games has kept players at the edge of their seat for years.
The script has been penned by the two Gatin brothers – George (She’s Out Of My League) and John (Flight, Real Steel) and is set to be directed by Scott Waugh, of Act of Valor fame. John Gatins himself has partnered with EA and Mark Sourian, and together they are bankrolling the film.
The legend himself Steven Spielberg had a few words to say about this film, summing up that the Need for Speed franchise seems perfect for the silver screen.
“I’m excited about getting back into the creative trenches with John and George Gatins and my partners at EA to bring to life an exhilarating script based on an epic video game that seems to have been made for the movies.” says Spielberg, followed by “This is a big piece of business for DreamWorks and we are grateful to Frank Gibeau, Pat O’Brien, Kevin Maher and John and George for choosing us to deliver their goods.”
