New Minecraft Mod: Zombie Survival!
In the continuing tradition of zombies invading every genre on every platform, an eager gamer has taken the liberty of creating a mod to make the zombies of Minecraft do more than startle players deep in a mining shaft.
While Minecraft already had zombies including in the game, they never really did more than lumber towards a player and growl. With the brand new MineZ server mod, based on the popular DayZ mod that has been making the rounds of the internet, the concept of surviving the night in Minecraft takes on a whole new meaning.
For those unfamiliar: DayZ is a newish total-mod for the game Arma 2, in which the player spawns into a full-sized zombie survival game. The player literally spawns with nothing more than the clothes on their back, and will have to hunt down water, food, tools, weapons, and even medicine. Yes, thirst, hunger, and injuries all play a part. If your character breaks its arm, you the player are responsible for not only treating the wound, but trying to deal with surviving with only one good arm now.
All of this is ideally being worked into the MineZ mod, as well as the concept of limitations on what the player can do inside the Minecraft world. After all, the threat of zombies isn’t too scary when a Minecraft player can just build a dirt palace in the side of a cliff and never have to worry. But in MineZ….survival will actually be a challenge.
Another small factor, only worth nothing to those who have tried, is that the mod is entirely server side: Players won’t have to mess with the complicated Minecraft modding process. They can just log in and be good to go from minute one.
