Petitioners earn almost $40K to avenge Shepherd in Mass Effect Endings rewrite
There’s a hot new petition circulating asking BioWare to provide new endings to their newest game, Mass Effect 3. In addition to their request to BioWare; this petition has generated over $34,000 to the Child’s Play charity while BioWare sits there unresponsive.
Retake Mass Effect demands alternate endings for Mass Effect 3, as BioWare promised fans there would be. As of March 2012 the petition has raised $40,000 USD for the Child’s Play charity for Children’s Hospitals on the provision of providing video games for patients at Children’s Hospitals, which the goal is every country.
The Retake Mass Effect petition requests more end-game options than what BioWare has provided, as fans consider the current ending of the third game a seriously failure. The generic mass ending of the latest Mass effect game pulled the rug out from under the series; as all along fans were led to believe their actions would determine their fate in the end.
BioWare ripped away their faith with an ending that ignored the mass efforts and directives, by applying a generic mass ending for the game, giving nearly the same ending regardless of fans choices in the game. Fans were furious, and understandably, as many have put in quite a lot of play time in years the game has been out, and have supported the game up to see the conclusion of the Trilogy. The fans were promised and expected a wide range of possible outcomes from the Mass effect games, but Mass Effect 3 did not deliver on this promise.
Complaints of a senseless ending, “no closure,” and many reportedly would have chosen a different play style with more explored opportunities-according to the forums- since they were led to believe the ending would be affected.
BioWare seems oblivious to the fact fans feel betrayed and blindsided. Emotional attachments do develop when you spend a few years making choices for a character, and to have a complete ending srcubbed out destroys credibility when no explanation of events leading TO the ending are even there to show how these events are consistent with the story line. BioWare has a lot of ground to make up. Even though BioWare displayed to fans that no matter no hard they strive, or how much time and effort they put into to it- their faith is not rewarded- but en mass, thrown away for the mighty buck, they may want to consider what the petition is asking for. A heroic ending with a feeling of accomplishment and some explanation of what happens to the races, planets, and companions seems to be the biggest need by fans for closure.
With 25,000 “likes” on Facebook, 3,000 followers on Twitter, and a force building by 40,000 voting on a poll on HYPERLINK forums for alternate endings in the Mass Effect games – BioWare may want to take note.
