Good: The massive, persistent game world offers conflict on a scale unheard of in the MMOFPS genre. Combined with the almost limitless character progression and advancement system, it makes PlanetSide 2 one of the most anticipated titles of 2012.
Bad: The only negative aspect to PlanetSide 2 at the moment is the lack of information. There has been no release date announced, or business model regarding a free or pay to play approach
PlanetSide 2 is the upcoming sequel to Sony’s massively popular MMOFPS title, PlanetSide. Pledge your allegiance to one of three factions, the Terran Republic, New Conglomerate and Vanu Sovereignty, and aid their cause by giving your blood and sweat on the battlefield. PlanetSide 2 boasts a number of features never before seen in MMOFPS games and is setting up to become a genre defining title.
PlanetSide 2 Review
Participate in battles of an epic scale featuring hundreds of players in combat spread across a number of maps and regions. From tightly packed streets of urban cities, to dense jungles and open fields, the huge game world offers dozens of different environments, each requiring a different tactical approach. The battles in PlanetSide 2 are not restricted to basic infantry vs. infantry conflicts, players will be able to pilot and drive a number of vehicles both on land and in the skies. The huge array of battle possibilities creates an action-packed MMOFPS experience that is sure to impress both casual and veteran FPS players.
PlanetSide 2 battles won’t last a few minutes like most lobby-based FPS titles, instead they can go on for days and weeks. The fully persistent game world is ever changing, with factions and players fighting for control of various strategical control points. Whether you’re grouping up with friends to take down an enemy stronghold or you’re sneaking behind enemy lines disrupting their military might by capturing power plants and ammo depots, every action you make can have a direct effect on the way the game world evolves.
PlanetSide 2 breaks the common restraints of class-based MMOFPS titles and offers players complete freedom of character progression. Over 20 unique weapons will be available at launch, supporting dozens of skills and abilities separated across a number of perk trees. Evolve your character in your own way, choosing different progression paths and unlocking different skills, all of which can be switched between at any time.
