Runescape
Good: The most exciting aspect to Runescape is the massive variety of skills. Practically every action in the game is related to a certain skill allowing players to improve their cooking, combat, hunting and more. Although classed as an MMORPG, the huge amount of skills available tend to provide players with a more sandbox feeling.
Bad: The worst aspect of Runescape is the slow-paced combat. Very few animations and sluggish attacks make for quite a dull fight at times, although they have just announced the upcoming Evolution of Combat update, so stay tuned.
Originally released in 2001, Runescape has since accumulated almost 200 million players, as well as breaking a number of browser-based MMO world records. Runescape is developed and published by Jagex Studios, the same development team behind the recently released MMORTS title, 8Realms. Runescape is one of the most updated games on the internet with new quests, skills, items and events being added on a regular basis. The most notable of recent updates is the launch of the Evolution of Combat update that is said to totally revolutionize the combat in the game.

Runescape is home to over 20 unique skills that players are able to level up. The vast amount of available skills, combined with the purpose of each skill, gives players the opportunity to become self-sufficient in almost any aspect of the game. Maybe you want to become Runescape’s greatest Chef? You’ll need to level up your Woodcutting to get some wood, your Firemaking to start a fire and your Cooking skill to learn more recipes and reduce the risk of burning your food. Maybe you’d rather be renowned to creating the most deadliest weapons in all of Runescape? You’ll need to mine rare materials with your Mining skill, turn them into ingots using your Smithing skill and then create the actual weapon itself. These systems are prevalent in almost every aspect of Runescape, meaning there’s always a new activity to try or something new to unlock.
Having been constantly updated since January 2001, Runescape has some of the most in-depth features seen in a browser game. There are dozens of quests to complete, all of which offer unique incentives in the form of rewards and unlockables and none involve the typical grindy approach of all other MMO titles. Runescape uses its quest system to offer players an immersive story and the opportunity to unlock more areas of the game.
