SMITE
SMITE is an upcoming free to play MOBA title, published and developed by Hi-Rez Studios, the same development team behind the hugely popular competitive hits Global Agenda and Tribes Ascend. SMITE is a unique MMO title that combines various MOBA features with MMORPG character progression and the unique third-person view point, removing the typical isometric view usually associated with the genre.
SMITE Review
Players familiar with other MOBA titles such as League of Legends will immediately recognize a number of the features and mechanics available in SMITE. Each lobby based match throws players into 5v5 PvP-based action. Similar to League of Legends, SMITE uses a 3-lane system, left, middle and right. Each lane has both enemy and friendly towers, a Phoenix protecting your base and a Minotaur. One of the most appealing factors to SMITE is the fact that some of the base defenses are living entities, over that of static towers seen in other MOBA titles. The final line of defense, the Minotaur, offers players a boss-fight like challenge where MMORPG mechanics such as kiting and tanking will have a heavy influence on your teams chance of success.
The characters available in SMITE are called Gods. They’re deities from various religions and aspects of history, including a total of 30 gods ready for launch. Players can enter the field of battle as iconic characters such as Zeus, Sun Wukong, Artemis and more. Each God has 4 unique abilities, all of which are skill-based. There is no targeting or lock-on in SMITE, every action and ability a player uses must be carefully aimed and timed.
Similar to League of Legends, SMITE offers a micro-transaction system in the form of an item mall. Players can purchase Gems which they can use to unlock new gods or special skins. There are no in-game effects or boosts available in the item mall, removing any real advantage for players other than the fact they have access to more Gods.
