StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm Update & Video Preview
Heart of the Swarm:
The Protoss
Alright folks, it is that time of the year again: the time when we get to have a tasty tidbit of information from Blizzard regarding an upcoming release. In this case, the tidbit was to inform players of what new multiplayer units each race will have in the upcoming expansion Heart of the Swarm.
Without further pause, here are the three new units the Protoss will get to tinker around with.
The Mothership Core
Available from the start of the game for use, and later having the ability to be turned into a full mothership, the core has a small grouping of abilities to assist in defense of the base. It has the ability Purify, which is a defensive action best suited to combat the common early anti-protoss strategies, and has Recall which can quickly bring a large number of units to base. The core also has the ability to transfer energy to any unit with the properly named ability of Energy Transfer.
No, we did not enter The Matrix. It is however just as annoying of an entity, mainly because of what skills it provides for the Protoss player. Featuring a skill that prevents the acquiring of minerals – Entomb – and an ability to provide detection of an enemy unit or building – Preordain :, a swarm of Oracles is sure to be a common sight on the new battlefields of Heart of the Swarm.
Calling in a Tempest: The final unit the Protoss gets to play with is a brand new capital ship, capable of attacking any air or ground units the enemy is foolish enough to put in front of it. Even though the ship is expensive, it may turn out to be the longest range in the game depending on if Blizzard decides to follow through with an update they are testing. This would put the Tempest range to 22, far beyond any of the previous units in the game with the current highest being the Siege Tanks range of 13.
