Stardrift Empires
Stardrift Empires is a free to play, browser-based, Sci-Fi MMORPG game published and developed by the appropriately named, SyFy Games. Stardrift Empires combines elements from both the RTS and RPG genres, with a mix of resource and construction management blended in with experience gain and character progression. As the game is a browser-based MMORPG there’s no time consuming download or hefty client to worry about, you can create an account or log in with Facebook and get into the action within seconds.
Stardrift Empires Review
The first thing you will notice about Stardrift Empires is the unique art style used in the images within the game. Although the game is classified as a browser-based MMORPG, it doesn’t use Unity, D3D or any other popular browser engines, instead it takes more of a text and image approach. Your character, military units and buildings are all represented by high-quality images and pictures, which does retract a little from the experience but the images are still quite appealing in their own right.
As you would expect in an MMORTS game, the main focus of Stardrift Empires is the accumulation of resources so that you’re able to construct various buildings and train a large variety of military troops and units. There are four main resources in the game Ore, Crystal, Hydrogen and Energy. Each one requires a specific building in order to harvest that particular resource, this allows you to make choices based on what resources you need most, upgrading the appropriate building while ignoring the others. Resource management is the key to success in all strategy titles and Stardrift Empires is no different.
Another feature of Stardrift Empires is the Mission system. You can access various missions simply by clicking the missions tab, which then displays the current available missions as well as any requirements to unlock future ones. Each Mission also tells you what ship you’ll need in order to complete it, the time it will take and the reward you’ll receive if you complete it. The missions are entirely automated, meaning you select the mission and then it’s down to your ship and units to whether or not it’s successful.
There are a number of other exciting features in Stardrift Empires such as the ability to expand your empire and create new colonies. Colonies work in a similar way to your home planet, a new area where you can construct various resource gathering buildings, train troops and access new missions. The more colonies you have access too, the more resources you can gather and the more presence you have in the galaxy.
There’s no shortage of MMORTS games on the internet but Stardrift Empires delivers in many areas other RTS games fail in, such as a unique art style, dozens of variations of missions and enough social features to ensure you never play alone.
Stardrift Empires,
Blaine,
Thanks for the review of Stardrift Empires! We appreciate all the positives things you had to say about the game and we’re working hard to improve the building times to advance players into ‘hunting’ portion of the game a little faster.
