Surprise Layoffs At Turbine
They’re most commonly known for their top MMO games, Lord of the Rings Online and Dungeons and Dragons Online, but recent events have shown that even the bigger companies are suffering. Following the recently successful release of the Riders of Rohan expansion for Lotro, Turbine and Warner Bros confirmed that they have laid off a number of staff members from the popular MMO companies HQ in Boston.
“As part of the continual review of our business operations and fluctuating market conditions, we have had to make reductions in our Turbine workforce,” Warner Bros. spokeswoman Remi Sklar told the Boston Globe.
“The group continues to remain an integral part of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.”
Industry experts are unsure if the layoffs are due to the ending of the Riders of Rohan development cycle or to other unforeseen problems. Lotro players haven’t waited a second regarding praising the latest expansion from Turbine, so it’s sad to see that a negative has to come from this. However, Turbine have confirmed that they don’t plan on holding back in regards to tweaks, fixes and updates for their most popular expansion since turning free to play.
