Tribes Ascend
The latest addition to the hugely popular Tribes franchise, Tribes Ascend, is a free to play MMOFPS title published and developed by Hi-Rez Studios. The game takes a large number of the features and mechanics that made previous Tribes titles so popular, and combines them with time-tested MMORPG character progression and a variety of exciting, action-based game modes.
Tribes Ascend Review
The most attractive aspects of Tribes Ascend are easily the advanced MMOFPS features. Unlike other games that feature the same combat we’ve seen in FPS titles since the original Doom game, Tribes Ascend adds a whole new level to depth to a previously stagnating genre. Players can use and combine 2 unique features, Skiing and Jetpacks. The Jetpack allows players to fly for short periods of time, while Skiing is used on the ground to build up speed. Combining these 2 features allows for skilled players to pick up great speed when traversing the map, offering them a large number of benefits such as increased survivability and the ability to hold the flag for longer periods.
There’s a variety of exciting game modes available such as MMOFPS regulars Team Deathmatch and Free for All, but there’s also a few unique twists to modes like Capture the Flag (CTF). The CTF game mode pits two teams against each other, each with their own base and set of automated defenses. Players must steal the flag from the oppositions based and return it to their own, all the while avoiding enemy turrets, vehicles and players.
Tribes Ascend also features a reward system similar to that of the one in the Call of Duty games. As you kill other players, collect the flag and defend your base, you’re rewarded with in-game credits. These credits can be used during matches to summon ammo drops, airstrikes and even vehicles such as tanks, bikes and jets.
