WarMage BattleGrounds
Every once in a while a quiet MMO title pops up that deserves attention, WarMage BattleGrounds is one of those games. You may prejudge the game based on the graphics, screenshots and videos, but if you’re able to put your regular MMO checklist to one side, you’ll be surprised at just how entertaining it can be. Stepping away from the regular notion that MMO strategy games involve endless construction and training queues, WarMage BattleGrounds offers a combat-drive strategy experience unlike anything you’ve played before.
WarMage BattleGrounds Review
The backbone of WarMage BattleGrounds is the combat system. Players use a turn-based system and move around various maps using a hex grid system. Each unit is totally unique in almost every way. Depending on the race their appearance is different, they have different attacking stats and abilities, and can even move different amounts of spaces. Players can construct their own team of fantasy beasts from a huge selection of units and races, creating an almost limitless amount of potential team combinations.
The construction of your team is only half the depth of the strategy featured in WarMage BattleGrounds. Once you’ve built your team and entered either PvE or PvP mode, you’ll be faced with strategy filled choices during every turn. Every map is unique in terms of design, with each featuring their own set of environmental challenges and bonus hex spaces. You’ll come across choke points, objects that block your line of sight and other environmental challenges that will test every decision you make. Will you block the choke points with your sturdy Warrior? Or maybe you’ll attempt to funnel your enemies into small areas so your Mage can launch devastating spells, every choice is vital.
It’s almost impossible to explain the level of depth in WarMage BattleGrounds unless you actually play the game. It’s still in the early stages of open testing so there’s plenty of updates on the way.
