Zombie MMO Announced – Not Browser-Based Garbage!!
Arguably one of the most painfully obvious settings for an MMORPG, the aftermath of a viral outbreak resulting is mass zombie nom-nomage, but do we have anything to play with? No we don’t, well not yet. There are a number of less desirably zombie titles available for us MMO fanatics, but there’s only so much you can do behind the constraints of current browser technology. Sure, titles such as Dead Frontier and Zombie Pandemic can be fun for a while, but if you’re into more than just killing zombies, or text and image game-play, neither delivers.
Then of course there’s DayZ. Not really an MMO game in the traditional sense as it only really supports 50-80 players max on each server. However, it does have all the ingredients that a successful survival-based Zombie MMO would need. And that’s when we come to the latest game announced to be joining the world of the Zombie MMO, The War Z.
Arktos Entertainment and Hammerpoint Interactive are hoping to cash-in on the zombie pandemic currently sweeping the globe, thanks to The Walking Dead TV series and games, as well as the impending doom of naysayers trying to convince us all the end is nigh in 2012. The War Z has already been compared to the DayZ mod, despite the fact it’s not even been played yet. The game is said to revolve around survival, instead of the typical run and gun approach. Players will have to explore zombie infested cities for supplies, food and weapons. The game will support two modes at launch, hardcore and normal. Hardcore will of course include perma-death and can be played in both first and third person, another striking similarity to DayZ.
Currently in the Alpha phase, The War Z will launch this fall and will be available as one time purchase, no subscription.
